Affordable electricity is essential to families, schools, farms and other small businesses across the West. Farmers need it to irrigate their crops, schools need it to energize learning technology, and hospitals need it to power their lifesaving machines.
So when unreasonable mandates threaten to unnecessarily drive up the cost of electricity at home or work, consumers need a place to turn.

Enter Keep Electricity Affordable, which is supported by not-for-profit rural electric cooperatives across Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming. This powerful coalition educates consumers on electricity issues that could impact their region and helps ensure their voices are heard in critical policy debates.
Through digital and in-person grassroots outreach, Keep Electricity Affordable has attracted more than 115,000 supporters across the intermountain West. It then has successfully activated this network at key junctures, giving advocates the information and tools they need to effectively engage with policymakers and at the ballot box.
The network has had a meaningful impact, shaping the development of thoughtful policy that respects our environment while ensuring affordable and reliable electricity.
SE2 helps keeps Keep Electricity Affordable’s online communities – more than 11,000 strong on social media – active year round with a compelling stream of relevant multimedia content, including infographics, videos and blog posts. When specific threats are identified, Keep Electricity Affordable springs into action with consumer-friendly analysis and guidance on how people can take action.
“With Twitter, Facebook and other online channels playing an increasingly prominent role in public relations strategies, lines of communication between utilities and customers are more open than ever before,” according to an Electric Energy magazine cover story. “The Keep Electricity Affordable campaign offers one example of effective grassroots outreach through a strategic combination of digital communications and face-to-face interaction with electricity consumers.”
SE2 has supported Keep Electricity Affordable with ongoing strategic counsel, content creation, web design, advertising campaigns, social media engagement, and development and management of the coalition’s advocate engagement systems.
The result is a potent policy powerhouse that empowers consumers to be vigilant when it comes to protecting this vital resource.
